I’m thrilled to be one of nine featured poets at the Sing Out Loud Poet Spotlight at Spinster Abbott’s, hosted by Chris Bodor, Florida’s Beat Poet Laureate. North Florida has a vibrant poetry community, Spinster Abbott’s is one of my favorite hang-outs, and Sing Out Loud is epic, with over 200 national, regional, and local artists performing live over multiple weekends, each September, in St. Augustine, Florida.

Live readings teach me about the rhythm and emotion of poetry every time I watch them. My work is dark, usually suited to a slower pace, but my fellow poets teach me how to make it seethe with anger or burst with joy. I’ll be transfixed in the audience when I’m not at the microphone.

The Poet Spotlight starts at 7:00 pm, followed by a community open mic at 8:00 pm (sign-ups start at 6:30 pm). Check out Ancient City Poets, my local chapter of the Florida State Poets Association, for more details.
