Ancient City Poets at that Sing Out Loud Festival, Spinster Abbot’s Bodega and Tap Room, St. Augustine, FL

I’m thrilled to be one of nine featured poets at the Sing Out Loud Poet Spotlight, hosted by Chris Bodor, Florida’s Beat Poet Laureate. The Poet Spotlight starts at 7:00 pm, followed by a community open mic at 8:00 pm (sign-ups start at 6:30 pm).

St. Augustine has a vibrant poetry community, Spinster Abbott’s is one of my favorite local hang-outs, and Sing Out Loud is epic, with over 200 national, regional, and local artists performing live over multiple weekends, each September, in St. Augustine.

Join Brian Keene, Laurel Hightower, S.H. Cooper, and a bunch of horror authors to raise money for the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization that defends the rights and liberties of all individuals in the United States. I’ll be reading my short story, “The Mothers,” about how teaching daughters to be proper perpetuates the horrors of their mothers.

I’ll be reading with a group of amazing authors at Strong Women, Strange Worlds, whose mission is to elevate the voices of women and other underrepresented gender identity authors of science fiction, fantasy, and horror; to highlight stories featuring strong female and non-binary characters; and to share these stories with readers of all ages. They’ll be giveaways, too!

St. Augustine PoetFest, Flagler College, St. Augustine, Florida

Flagler College, Ancient City Poets, and the St. Johns Cultural Council present a festival of poetry readings to improv showcases in a variety of cultural venues through historical St. Augustine. I’ll be speaking about monstrous beauty, reading dark poetry, and selling poetry books.
