There's a Hallowen circus in town. Behind the Gothic gates are wonders, and monsters, beyond comprehension. My poem, "An Empty Seat," is about a clown riding one of the rides, something you don't usually see.

Horror Poetry for the weekend before Halloween
It rainy and cool in Florida, this weekend before Halloween. The cypress needles are turning a rusty brown. Strange birds are calling in the swamp, traveling south away from places where Autumn is stripping the trees. It's the perfect time to read poetry that chills the blood and breaks your heart.
Beware! Dark Seas Ahead
My poem, Kraken, is featured this month in the Beware! Dark Seas Author & Artist Showcase. Each year, Jolene Haley features dark stories and creations for the month of October. Come walk along the dark shore and meet the watery denizens that lurk there.

Orange and Black and Decay – 24 Days until Halloween
There is Halloween in the woods. Limbs and leaves fall. Decomposers invade. The trees take on a different beauty in death, with fungi threading through its tissue, splitting its bark open. Beautiful rot, as it becomes part of the forest floor. Orange fungi. Black muck.
Halloween at Work – 25 Days until Halloween
A taxidermied Bufo marinus that’s been made into a change purse is a permanent resident of my office at my day job. Animals skulls and insects preserved in jars keep it company. My coworkers have different bones and dead things at their desks. So it is with field biologists: we love critters so much, we bring them back … Continue reading Halloween at Work – 25 Days until Halloween

October is my birthday month, and my family celebrates it with me by filling the month with spooky goodies. We started the month off by going to The Addams Family musical. The … Continue reading Addams Family Night Out – 27 Days until Halloween
